Let me preface this by saying I only explored the parking, lobby, and patient rooms at the 10th Avenue and 58th Street location. I did not explore further into the hospital, so my review reflects only what I personally saw.
Again, a reminder: these are just my observations. I hope they’re helpful and interesting, but they are not meant to guide your medical choices.
Grand Hospital Entrance, But That’s Where It Ends
This hospital covers an entire city block in Midtown Manhattan. From the outside, it’s incredibly grand: wide concrete staircases, elegant columns, and impressive archways. The entrance felt more like a landmark building than a hospital.

The lobby continued that theme with dark wood features and a concierge at the desk. It all felt very elegant. Unfortunately, that elegance didn’t carry beyond the first floor.
Aesthetic Decline and Dated Interiors
As soon as I was pointed toward the elevators, the environment shifted. The hallways, elevators, and patient rooms reminded me of the hospitals I visited in the 1980s. Very institutional. The shared room I visited had a ceiling-mounted camera, which I was told was used because the patient was a fall risk. Logical, but still a little unsettling.
I used the restroom in the lobby. It was clean but lacked paper towels, which is the kind of small inconvenience you notice.
As for parking: it was expensive. But this is New York City, so that’s to be expected.
💊 Rating: 3 out of 5 pills
The lobby and exterior earn a 5, but everything past that caused the score to drop significantly.
Next time, I’ll be reviewing the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Hospital Hopping #4.
Stay happy and healthy,
Sally
